Why Become a Health First Colorado Provider

It's a Great Time to Be a Health First Colorado Provider

As a Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program) primary care or behavioral health provider, you have the opportunity to help improve access to care and health outcomes for more than 1.4 million Coloradans. Colorado is at the forefront of Medicaid reform and a model for other states to follow, so it’s a great time to come on board.

Through the Accountable Care Collaborative (ACC), which is the main Health First Colorado plan, the state has made great strides in improving overall health and reducing avoidable health care costs. The first phase of the ACC focused primarily on expanding access to comprehensive primary care via a medical home, ensuring a positive member and provider experience, and applying a higher level of statewide data and analytics functionality to drive coordinated, quality care.

In the second phase of the ACC, which began July 2018, the state is committed to creating a more integrated, coordinated system of care that further improves health and life outcomes for members while using state resources wisely. The key objectives are to:

  • Join physical and behavioral health under one accountable entity
  • Strengthen coordination of services by advancing team-based care and health neighborhoods
  • Promote member choice and engagement
  • Pay providers for the increased value they deliver
  • Ensure greater accountability and transparency
